Lighting changes everything. It sets the mood for a romantic dinner, sparking the fire between two strangers. It lets you stay up much too late reading Harper Lee’s “Go Set a Watchman.” It tells your family, “Christmas is here!” when Dad turns on the Christmas tree lights.
But did you know that you can craft with them too? Try out these four festive DIY light crafts.

1. Mason Jar Fairy Tale Lights

This is one of the easiest DIY light crafts, and perhaps the most magical. With a few mason jars, some glow-in-the-dark paint, and paintbrushes, you can create mystical fairy-tale lights perfect for lighting up a little girl’s bedroom or for lining up along a driveway entrance.

With a clean mason jar, dip your brush into some glow-in-the-dark paint and speckle the inside of the jar. When you’re finished, clean the brush and do the same thing with a different glow-in-the-dark color. The results? Dreamy fairy tale glow-in-the-dark mason jars straight out of a storybook.

2. Festive Branches Room Divider

Christmas lights aren’t just for Christmas anymore. In fact, this twinkling room divider would be perfect for a year-round touch of intimate, cozy glow in any living space.

First, make the divider’s frame from pine, wax, nails, and wood screws. This is the most time-consuming part of the DIY, but also the most important.

After making the frame, paint it with a chalky finish in a light shade. Then, use wire to secure several small tree branches in place. Lastly, wrap white Christmas lights from ChristmasLightsEtc.com around the branches. The result? A lovely room divider even more comforting than a fireplace.

3. Wine Bottle Sconces

These wine bottle sconces are what’s missing from your back porch or patio get-togethers. Save your favorite wine bottles and make these inviting wall-mounted lights to vive-up your backyard. You’ll also need to visit your local home department store for some nuts and bolts you might not have lying around, along with a tiki replacement wick and some torch fuel.

With a bit of handiwork and some booze (although hopefully not together), Voila! You have trendy lighting perfect for your next barbecue.

4. Darling Doily Lamp

This doily lamp will not only bring a soft, feminine touch to your home, but it’s super fun and simple to make! All you’ll need is a balloon, some doilies (you can pick these up for cheap at most thrift or vintage stores,) wallpaper glue, a paintbrush, and a hanging light fixture.

By decoupaging the doilies around a blown-up balloon and waiting for it to dry, the result is a sort of doily dome that will act as the shade for your light. Depending on what doilies you use, the result might be a light that’s latticed along the wall. Your one-of-a-kind lamp will bring warmth and a quirky touch to a dining room, or can act as the centerpiece in the living room.

From fairytale jars to festive room dividers, there are so many DIY light ideas to play with. These four crafts are sure to brighten any day.
