You’ve thought about it for years. You may even already have a business plan collecting dust on a hard drive, but you have never felt the timing was right. Maybe the market was too rocky for you. Or maybe you didn’t feel like you had the skills necessary to get the job done.

Throw all those excuses out of the window. The time to start that online passion project is now. You’ve been using your skills to make other people money. Now is the time to do just that for yourself. This list will get you motivated to get that business idea out of your head and into reality. Maybe one day you go viral and have to get a car that requires special insurance.

#1 – You’re Bored

There is no shame in collecting unemployment in the midst of an economic crisis and pandemic.

However, there is an opportunity for you to get out here and follow your dream of starting that passion project. If you are one of the tens of millions of people who collected unemployment, then you may have the extra time on your hands necessary to get this thing started.

Additionally, you may be one of the millions facing social isolation in this pandemic. It’s hard for social creatures like humans to be isolated for long periods of time.

Starting that online passion project could be the thing that helps your mental health during these trying times. You should also get a therapist even if that isn’t covered under your current health insurance.

#2 – More Eyes on You

We are still in a pandemic, and most folks are staying in quarantine. Internet traffic is up across the board since the beginning of the pandemic. Couple that with the fact that we are entering a new spike in infections, and this trend should only continue.

What does this mean for your online passion project? It means that there are more eyeballs and potential customers for you. There are more people available for you to get your products and services in front of. As we know, business is ultimately a numbers game.

The more people you can get your product and services in front of, the more products and services you will be able to provide — which ultimately means a better bottom line.

#3 – Affordable Tools at Your Fingertips

We’ve all heard the overused adage of not reinventing the wheel. It’s overused because it’s true. However, it also applies here. There’s many affordable alternatives to expensive advertising.

  • You don’t need to learn to be some kind of social media marketing genius. You can just hire one.
  • You don’t need to master search engine optimization. You can hire a master.
  • You don’t have to be an Instagram star to sell your products. You can pay one to promote your products for you.

The possibilities are endless, and it’s just up to you and your network. You can hire a consultant for that as well. If you can’t afford one, connect with people on networking sites like LinkedIn. In the year 2020, we fly around the world in five-ton metal tubes with wings.

One person can talk to and be seen by millions of people across all corners of the globe. Since we have all that, I’m sure there is someone who can help you solve your problem — whatever it is.

#4 – It’s Your Dream to Follow

Our dreams are a reminder of our unfulfilled desires. This passion project is yours. Nobody else dreamed it up. Nobody else is going to get it going but you. Also, nobody is stopping you but you. It’s only going to happen if you get off your butt and do it.

The major difference between being a worker bee and being the owner of a small business is that there is nobody pushing you to get things done. Nobody is going to set priorities for your business but you.

The proverbial buck starts and stops with you. If you want your business to flourish, you will have to make it flourish. This can be scary, but as many business owners will tell you, it’s only hard, not impossible.

#5 – You Won’t Know if You Don’t Try

We’ve all been socialized to chase the American dream — the house, the car, the white picket fence, the partner and 2.5 kids, the dog, and the good job.

But for some people, the job is never going to make them happy, no matter what it is. Some people need to be in charge, win or lose. Maybe you’re one of those people who needs that control.

Maybe what you want to do with your life isn’t a job that exists yet and you need to create that job for yourself. The way for people like this is often to take a hobby and make it a business. You deserve that. You deserve the best life possible with nothing but sunshine and rainbows. Maybe your dream is selling sunshine and rainbows.

Whatever it is, you deserve all of this and more — no matter what’s going on in your life. However, it’s never going to happen until you get out there and make it happen. You deserve to give your dreams a shot at becoming a reality.

Stop Waiting and Start Now

I hope that you can believe in yourself. I hope you have the confidence to get out there and make it happen. I hope that you put the proper amount of effort in the right places to make your dreams happen.

I wish you countless quarters in the black. I wish you million-dollar deals. I wish you more business than you can handle. I wish you first-class problems. I hope that all your dreams for your passion project will come true.

But no amount of wishing and hoping from me will make it happen for you. The popular quote asks, “If not us, who? If not now, when?” With that in mind, I say to you. The answers are you and right now. Now go make it happen.
