Reasons to visit Norway

Norway is one of the prominent countries in Europe and it is due to a lot of different reasons. It is a remote location and a relatively cold place but it is known for its scenery. This combined with being right next to the Arctic Ocean this manages to attract tourists from all around the world. There are a lot of activities and things to do in Norway that contribute to its appeal:

  • Hiking: Norway has great hiking trails that will take you away from the crowded areas and let you explore a completely different part of the country; there are different types of hiking trails depending on how experienced you are. If you are looking to hike you can go for the peak of the highest mountain in the country or simply hike through one of the more forgiving national parks. If you are interested you can learn more about hiking here.
  • Fjords: Fjords are something not everyone is familiar with. So as to simply describe them they are simple inlets for the ocean in to land and they basically look like a lake but have a connection to the main ocean body. Usually cruises and other big ships travel into them to give the tourists the best of views.
  • Old coastal towns and wooden churches: Norway is a country with a really long coast. In fact it has the second longest coastline in the world after Canada despite for being a relatively small country. Along the coast it is normal to find small coastal towns that are based on islands. These small islands are a must visit as they are extremely beautiful. Ålesund and Lofoten are other coastal towns that deserve a visit. It is also very common to find wooden churches in Norway, where Mandal church is the largest of them with seats for 1800 people. The presences of wooden churches are rare as in the rest of Europe they are usually made out of stone.
  • Northern lights: Last but definitely not the least in the reasons for visiting Norway is the northern lights, this is the most common reason for tourists to make their way to Norway as this natural phenomenon is literally breathtaking to look at. The best time to go take a look at these lights is in the winters when the nights are longer and the weather is dry and clear so that you can have a clear look at the sky. Remember that even though the northern lights can be seen from time to time in all of Norway, you should head above the Arctic Circle if this is one of the main reasons you’ve traveled.
