With the progress of research and development with electric motors and systems, Ford has been on the cutting edge with thanks to continued collaboration with Webasto. With investments of over $11.5 billion, Ford is committed to bringing sustainable and comparable electric vehicles by 2022. With the current line-up including a fully electric SUV in this 2020 season and an all-electric F-150 within the next few years, Ford is excited to announce the Mustang Lithium to join the forefront of modern electric vehicles. In this article, we take a closer look at what to expect with this new electric Mustang.

The Mustang is a power-horse, generating immense power and torque that will make you feel like you are in the cockpit of a rocket as you blast down the road. With the immense popularity and success from previous generations of Mustang, both on the road and racetracks, Ford works to make sure the presence and experience of the Mustang remain intact with the all-new Lithium model. With a sleek prototype look, we are excited to see the staple muscle car retain its bold form, and instill the confidence that if it looks like a Mustang, it will drive like a Mustang. The frame sits low to the road, putting you directly in the action and giving an agile response to turns that put your driving skills to the test.

The Mustang Lithium is engineered for power, toting an 800-volt Webasto battery system that utilizes EVDrive Technology that can discharge a megawatt of electrical energy on command. This stream of power is utilized well throughout the Mustang’s tuned systems pushing out over 900 horsepower and, according to the folks at Fullerton Ford (Somerville, NJ) with over 1,000 lb-ft of torque! This extremely fast and responsive output of power is only possible with the lighting fast electrical systems Webasto has put to work that offer an acceleration experience like no other. Webasto didn’t leave a single stone unturned, further enhancing the cooling systems and powertrain to generate less heat overall and waste less energy to supply more power directly through the Mustang’s systems.

The all-electric motor works well with the systems designed by Webasto and Ford, putting the power generated to work and distributing it directly to the roadway for forward motion. The track-ready Getrag MT82 6-speed manual transmission with tuned billet internals puts you in control of the 1,000 lb-ft of torque potential. The differentials added on are Super 8.8 Torsen that compliment the Ford Performance half-shafts that bring power directly into the tires. The light-weight of the overall frame works well, allowing for a tuned center of gravity to be lower and more central to the frame, giving responsive turning and faster acceleration.

Sustainable, less friction, less heat, more optimized systems; Webasto’s ingenuity and engineering bring the Mustang Lithium’s electric dream to reality. Never before has a muscle car approached all-electric status with a lightning-fast response and incredible track/roadway performance. If you get the chance to sit in the driver’s seat of the Mustang Lithium, you won’t soon forget it.
