Garages are supposed to be the best place to store cars to keep them out of nasty weather conditions, including thunderstorms and other issues. It can also be a good way to keep vehicles clean, especially since it will prevent bird poop, leaves, dirt, and other substances from winding up on your car’s windows and doors. However, not everyone stores their vehicles in their garages. Instead, other people use them as storage space, especially for power tools and yard and lawn equipment.

No matter what your situation might be, there are a couple of supplies that individuals should always have in the garage. These four things are essential, utilitarian tools helpful in emergency situations or when trying to set up any activities or perform house maintenance. What are they? Read on!

Extension Cords

An extension cord is a protected cable that connects electrical outlets to tools or a bank of outlets. The entire idea behind the cord is that will provide another conduit for electricity so it’s easier to plug and use power tools or other devices that need the electricity to function. Most garages should include at least one of these since outlets are not always located in the most convenient of places.

For example, let’s say you own an air machine to help you refill your tires if they ever start to deflate. Most of these machines need to be plugged in. But if you don’t have room in your garage to pull the vehicle forward, how will you feel the tires? Instead of worrying, you can plug the extension cord into the outlet in the garage and then have the machine plugged into the other end. Problem solved!

When picking an extension cord, remember that they are not all made the same. If you would like to know more, get more information here about the types you can find at most stores.

First Aid Kit

First aid kits are an essential part of life. Everyone gets hurt eventually, ranging from minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises to broken bones and concussions. For all of those small injuries in your life, you need a first aid kit.

First aid kits can be brought anywhere any typically consist of a black or red bag filled with a bunch of important tools. Some of the enclosed items tend to be bandages, wraps, disinfectant, gauze, and small scissors for cutting through the thick wraps. When people are working in the garage or outside, it’s not uncommon for people to nick themselves on metal or to accidentally cut or smash their fingers. When this happens, you don’t want to have run to the store or doctor. Instead, you can just reach inside the garage’s first aid kit and treat the wound itself.

Fire Extinguisher

Nobody wants to think of their house or garage catching fire, but it is a possibility. If you don’t want to keep an extinguisher in the house where small children or pets might get their hands on it, then moving the item to the garage is an excellent idea. Fire extinguishers emit a white material that smothers fire by eliminating its access to oxygen. Keeping one in a garage is a convenient storage space for indoor and outdoor accidents and can stop dangerous flames from spreading and posing a threat to you and your loved ones.

Toolbox

Even if you’re not a handy or mechanical person, it’s important to keep basic tools around the house for when there are minor breakdowns. Most toolboxes or kits contain some essential items like wrenches, hammers, and pliers. These can help you repair loose floorboards, broken door handles, and other nuisances both indoors and outdoors. Even if you don’t quite know how to use them, toolboxes are easy to grasp and you’ll never know when you need a wrench or hammer to fix a minor problem with a convenient solution.

Whether or not you use your garage to store your vehicles or power tools, there are a couple of items you should always keep around just for your basic protection and convenience. These can help you out in a tight situation, and also prevent future damage to your home by combating fires and other potential hazards.
