Holiday ideas on a student budget

Budgeting should be a daily practice for university students. As you get better at managing your money, you will be able to save up for holidays and special occasions. There are plenty of options in the UK for more affordable holidays. You can still go on holiday when you’re a student – you just might have to give up a few luxuries.

You can stay in hostels instead of five-star hotels and opt for self-catering instead of eating out every night. There are also funding options available to give you an extra boost, such as loans for students with poor credit.

Here are a few places you could visit this year.

Peak District

If you enjoy hiking and the great outdoors, visit the Peak District for some of the best views in England. The Dark Peaks cover vast moorlands and gritstone, while the White Peaks reveal milky limestone surfaces. After a day of hiking, you could stop off at the Chesterfield Flea market to grab a bargain. The Peak District is filled with quaint cottages and hot tubs, as well as a few youth hostels for those on a tighter budget. Sit back, enjoy the views and forget about your upcoming exams.

Brighton

Students and nightlife come hand in hand. Brighton is a great night out and is the perfect place to enjoy a beachside holiday. Who needs Ibiza when you can party on a beach in Brighton, right?

Soak in some sunshine and find a few aesthetic brunch spots for an Instagram picture. There are plenty of places to go shopping as well, including numerous independent shops in the infamous Brighton lanes.

Northumberland

Head further north for an adventure holiday in Northumberland. You could visit the small beachside town, Seahouses, and catch a boat to The Farne Islands. These islands are known for their diverse wildlife, and you might just spot a whale or dolphin along the way. It can get a little chilly in Northumberland, so leave your bikini at home and pack a jumper instead.

Organise a water sports day with your friends and try out surfing, paddleboarding or coasteering. Of course, Northumberland is next door to Newcastle, and no one does a night out like the Geordies. End your trip with a night in Newcastle and meet a few Newcastle students.

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is home to some fantastic views and an even better night out. Take a tour of the Game of Thrones filming locations before visiting the breath-taking Irish beaches.

There is something for everyone in the UK, whether you want an adventure holiday or a relaxing spa break. Do your research and book in advance to find the best deals available.
