The White House has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms and 6 levels in the Residence. There are also 3 elevators, 8 staircases, 28 fireplaces, 147 windows and 412 doors. It requires 570 gallons of paint to cover its outside surface. The White House kitchen is able to serve dinner to as many as 140 guests and hors d’oeuvres to more than 1 000.
At various times in history, the White House has been known as the “Executive Mansion”, the “President’s House”, and the President’s Palace”. In 1901, president Theodore Roosevelt officially gave the White House its current name.
Michelle Obama said that the White House is actually People’s House and everyone should feel welcome in it. And together with her husband opened up the house to as many people as they can.
Michael S. Smith decorated the White House for the Obamas, the private quarters are as relaxed and worldly as the family that calls them home.

The decorator was introduced to the Obamas following the 2008 elections by a mutual friend in Chicago.
