A pan covered in burnt and blackened grime can sound to you like a nightmare, since this will mean it’s time to put on rubber gloves and scrub with some chemical solution until your arms fall off. Or you can take a look in your pantry to find these three ingredients that can help you save your favorite pots and pans.

This is exactly what Sarah from the Apartment Therapy did and she really liked this chemical-free solution because it actually cut scrubbing time in half and gave a new life to her pan. She used these ingredients:

  • 1 cup of vinegar,
  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda and
  • 1 cup of water.

And yes, no need to mix these ingredients separately, but you can pour them directly into the pan itself.

So, she first pours the water into the pan and then the vinegar. After that, she brings the pan to a boil and this is how the cleaning process starts. Then she removes the pan from the heat and adds the baking soda. There could be some fizzing action at this point.

Then, she dumps out the pan and scrubs it as normal, but now it takes less effort and time to make it shine bright again.

And in case there are still some stubborn black marks, she makes a paste with baking soda and a couple drops of water. She leaves the paste one the marks for a bit and then scrub them away. So, as Sarah says, now it’s time to relax because you have saved yourself many hours standing over the sink.
