Ladies and gentlemen, despite the fact that summer is refusing to shift, make no mistake; winter is coming… eventually. In my books, it is never too early to start considering your winter wardrobe! To help you get prepared for the season, we have the scoop to get you comfortably switched over from your summer threads (or lack thereof) to the luxurious layers that winter promises to bring. Who doesn’t love the flexibility that the cold brings, it allows us to play with textures and layering that you just can’t manage in the warmer months.

Textures

Now you can’t possibly talk about winter textures without mentioning woolen knits and merino wool is the most luxurious. The best way to get Merino Snug is with large loose knit patterns. Another texture that is will keep you looking super hot in the winter chill is velvet, this one has been on the fringes for a while and if you are feeling edgy this is that fabric for you. Another bold look that is suddenly back is the single shade double denim, believe it or not! Suede and leather (or suede and leather looking) fabrics are classics that can always add a little something to your outfit, this is especially true because over the knee boots will be back in a big way!

Patterns

This winter we will be vibing with large but muted floral patterns, and simple stripes: specifically pinstripes and irregular horizontals. Other than that solid colours are the bold go to this coming season as the focus is more on the textures.

Colours

Forget burgundy and mustard, the staple colours for this season are abrasive reds, midnight blues and military greens. For those of you that only want to dip your toe in, you can work these colours in with a shoe or makeup look but you wouldn’t seem out of place decked out from head to toe in solid colour either.

There is also a continuation from last seasons pastel inspirations with soft purple making a comeback on runways this year. We will also be expecting metallics to play a part but of course a you can never go wrong with grey or black, it is winter after all!

Style

Whether or not you tend to lean towards more feminine or more androgynous/masculine looks, there is something for you as the nineties fashion resurgence continues in a big way, with cute touches from the seventies. Grungier looks can be achieved with slip dresses, combat boots and military style jackets, or you can keep it sleek with cute turtle necks and high waisted skirts. Pretty much high-waisted everything is what we will be seeing this winter!

As I mentioned above, over the knee boots are going to be huge, so play with that look by adding a peep toe or employing a faded out brown or grey boot. For comfort-comes-first-ers thanks to Kylie sweats and hoodies are cool again so there is no need to put yourself out! Ultra fem and bohemian is also a look we will be seeing a lot of this season so if frills, whites and soft pinks are your thing you are in luck.

Fashion is what you make it and as long as you take some basic hints from what is trending and wear your outfit with confidence you are sure to come across as ultra sexy! Inspiration is coming from all over the place so you can choose to be your inner seventies flower child, a grungier nineties girl or a fierce, futuristic space alien and you will probably be right on trend!
