Tip #1: Lock the doors

Sounds simple, right? It is. The first way to stop pests from entering is to barricade their way in. Regularly check all windows and doorways for pests or their droppings. If you have a doggy door installed, you should make sure it’s closed at times it’s not needed. Once your pet has come through, make sure to examine it for any insects and such. If you keep the door closed, pests won’t be able to make it through in the first place.

Tip #2: Spring clean

Pests can always find their way to food. If you leave any open containers or garbage can overflowing with trash, you will definitely find pests rooting around in them. Make sure you clean your kitchen until it’s squeaky clean so pests can’t find their way in. Your pets might track dirt and insects inside and you should clean them properly to make sure the infestation doesn’t spread.

Tip #3: Get to mopping

Standing or still water attracts lots of pests such as mosquitoes. Some of these pests can carry a lot of viral infections and spread diseases among humans. You need to make sure these carrier pests are out of your house so they can’t spread infections. Pets can bring in fleas that carry diseases like rabies. Make sure your pets dry off after baths and don’t carry in pests in their fur.

Tip #4: Yardwork

A messy yard with rot and mulch attracts a lot of pests. Make sure you regularly do yard maintenance and clean up after your pets when they play outside. Any pet feces can attract a horde of unwanted pests such as flies and mosquitoes which buzz around this waste. Clean up after your pets and rake your leaves to ensure no mold can form and gather. In this way, you can prevent pests from swarming around or invading your house.

Tip #5: Keep the outside, outside

All pets have toys they play with. However, outside toys should always remain outside. If you allow your pets to bring in their toys, they will attract and bring in unwanted invaders and pests. This is inevitable and should be stopped. Make sure your pets’ playthings are kept clean, germ-free and outside the house whenever possible.
