Pick a Character
First of all you should take a look at the invitation that you’ve receive, because the guests might have to pick their costumes according to a theme. Now that you’ve got the theme in mind, start thinking about which character you want to go as before anything else. One thing that you should keep in mind is that it’s not necessary to go as a main character, because chances are that a lot of people at that party will have the same costume. This could be a crucial part of picking your outfit, because you don’t wanna go to the party and have zero impact, you want to turn the heads of the other cosplayers.
Be Original
You can do one of two things: you can either go and just buy a costume that’s ready to wear, or you can make one from scratch. Of course, the time is limited and that’s understandable, but if you can’t make the entire costume from scratch, you can at least do some parts of it. Originality will always be deeply appreciated at this kind of event, so you can dress up as a certain character and add a twist to the entire thing, maybe something that’s representative for you.
Wait, That’s Not All!
As you’ve probably expected, cosplay is more than choosing something to wear. The whole idea is to try and look as much as possible as the character that you are portraying. Choosing a character that has a complicated makeup, sure means a lot of effort, but you’re gonna be the center of attention for sure. Go as far as painting your face or wearing contact lenses if you really wanna make an impression!
As for the hair, chances are that your natural color is different from your character’s. Your immediate thought is definitely to buy a wig and style it as you please, but you can always also consider dyeing your hair. Who knows, maybe it will be a nice change in your life and you can always use temporary hair dyes.
