Doing DIY can often be a long, exhausting and often expensive task. If you’re refitting a kitchen or even just redecorating a bedroom, you’ll want to make sure any work you do is up to scratch so you don’t end up re-doing it again in a few years or even months. Therefore it is key that you use the correct tools for the job. You can purchase a range of tools from ADA Fastfix.

While it’s almost impossible to predict which prints will still be in fashion in the next five years, there are a lot of ways you can make your efforts last longer than any trend. If you build something well, it could remain in your home for decades. Here are some top tips to make sure any construction work you do in your home lasts.

Weld things together

One of the best materials you can use to build anything in your home is metal. It is extremely strong, but if you buy tubular metal rods it can also be very light as well. It can also be bent into pretty much any shape imaginable and if treated well, the material will not rust or rot. The fixtures used to attach these materials are also very strong. For example, if you use nuts and bolts to build a metal bed frame, you can rest assured they’ll hold firmly together no matter how much strain they’re put under. They can then be undone easily and reinstalled in a new room if necessary.

If you want to create a solid structure that will never move, a weld between two pieces of metal is one of the strongest joins around. By purchasing one of a wide range of welding machines on the market, you’ll be able to make solid structures that can take a lot of weight. If you’re inexperienced in welding, you could even purchase an automatic welder to create a firm join with very little effort.

Buy specialist fixings

If you’re hanging a light photo frame or piece of art, you could simply just pick up a hammer and nail and secure it firmly to the wall. If you’re hanging anything heavier, you’ll need to use a specialist fixing. If you’re screwing into a solid brick wall, this might be as simple as buying a big enough wall plug for your screw. If you’re trying to attach something to an unusual kind of wall, for example, a stud wall that is hollow behind, you will need a more specialist type of wall plug. If you use a traditional wall plug on walls like these, they will simply slide out once you screw something to them.

Double up

If you really want to build something strong that will last, it’s often best to use a number of different techniques in the construction process. For example, if you’re building a wooden chair then glue alone wouldn’t be enough to hold it together. If you add some glue to the joint before inserting a screw, the pressure of the screw combined with the surface coverage of the glue will make a very solid join. Whatever you’re building, try and use at least two types of appropriate fixings to hold it together.
