Think about the best compliment you’ve ever received? Chances are, it had something to do with your skin; aside from someone complimenting your generous nature or kind heart, when it comes to compliments received on our physical appearance, something about skin compliments just hit differently. That’s why it’s essential to do everything we can to take care of the skin we’re in. So, let’s dive in quickly to the easiest ways to keep your skin tip top.

See A Dermatologist

Now, this may seem like a no-brainer, but so many people don’t see dermatologists until they have something concerning – like a mole that’s changed appearance, eczema, or severe acne. But, it’s absolutely worth it to book an appointment to get in with a dermatologist so they can do a skin analysis. They can let you know your skin type and the best way to take care of it. They also will give you helpful tips like wearing SPF every day and always wearing a hat when going out in the sun for extended periods of time. Most insurance covers a derm visit, so if you’re insured, there’s no reason not to make an appointment, so you know the baseline of what you’re working with.

Invest In Products That Work

You can go to any big-box retailer, even grocery stores, and find a myriad of skincare products and make-up boasting the ability to cure your skin of ailments you may have or balance oil levels. The truth is, most of the time, you have to invest in quality products to get the job done. Whether you’re shopping for foundation or eye cream, it’s essential to research the ingredients and read honest reviews about what you’re interested in. If you are spending a little more on skin products, it’s worth it to buy from companies with generous return policies. There’s nothing worse than being stuck with a $50 bottle of moisturizer that breaks you out. So, do your research and invest accordingly.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

You may have found yourself seeing signs that it’s time to switch up your skincare routine. And while there are things that you should probably be adding, like toner and SPF, you might be overlooking the simple act of drinking more water. Water is essential for the hydration of our entire bodies and impacts our overall health significantly. But, when you realize that our skin is our body’s largest organ, it makes even more sense that if we’re consuming the correct amount of water every day, our skin is only going to benefit from that. And benefit greatly it will. There are also teas you can drink that will help with skin detox and glowing as well. So, look into ways to track your hydration levels and make sure (at minimum) you’re getting your recommended eight glasses a day; and consider adding a skin-boosting tea to your nighttime routine.

Get Your Beauty Rest

Speaking of nighttime routines, they don’t call it “Beauty Sleep” for no reason. Another easy way to benefit your skin is by making sure you are getting the appropriate amount of sleep a night. Aim for eight hours; even better if you can get in nine or ten! Sleep is a time of significant restoration for the body on a cellular level. So again, your skin needs time to repair and restore itself while you’re catching those z’s every night!

If you’re having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, look for ways to improve on that. This includes limiting screen time to at least one to two hours before tucking in. You also want to make sure you develop a calming nightly routine which could consist of meditation, tea time, and a relaxing bath – but one thing it has to include is a solid nighttime skin routine!

SPF

Please don’t forget to use SPF on your delicate facial skin every single day – no matter the weather. Any dermatologist or esthetician will gently remind you that this is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your skin. So, don’t forget this vital step in your morning skin routine because it’s not just for times you’re going to the pool, on a hike, or the beach.

So there you have it, these simple things, if implemented and stuck to, will show you immediate gains and returns on your investment. Here’s to your skin health!
