It’s hardly a surprise that Italy occupies the top spot on everyone’s travel list. From the fantastic food to the jaw dropping landscapes, beautiful coastline and picturesque little villages, it’s simply one of a kind. And the gorgeous weather is always a nice surprise too!

If you’re considering heading out to the continent, Italy is a great place to start. Here are some places and experiences you simply can’t miss.

Hike the Cinque Terre

A stunning hike that takes you along the rugged Italian Riviera coastline, the Cinque Terre takes hikers along the clifftops, dropping down into five villages that make up the famous ‘Five Lands.’

All unique in design and personality, the five villages are composed of Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore and Monterosso. You can make the hike as long or short as you like, but most people opt for the day hike, otherwise known as The Blue Pathway, that connects the villages from Riomaggiore to Monterosso.

Explore Lake Como by boat

Nestled just a couple of hours northwest of Milan, Lake Como offers postcard vistas for 146 square kilometres. Surrounded by soaring mountains and graced by historic villas, monuments and terracotta-rooved houses, Lake Como is simply a vision of European grace and opulence.

And it’s big! With so much to discover, take to the waters with a boat tour and discover what historic towns like Bellagio and Verenna have to offer. Hop off and take in the small markets, indulge in fine Italian eats and treat yourself to a creamy scoop of gelato before seeing where the boat takes you next.

Head south to the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast has to be one of the most iconic spots in the whole of Italy. Rugged cliffs are bespeckled with colourful houses interspersed with luscious green foliage whilst the sea glistens a royal blue, beckoning visitors to take the plunge.

As well as its mesmerising scenery, Amalfi boasts some of the best weather in Italy and offers stunning seafood dishes thanks to its prime spot on the ocean. Amalfi is simply all the best parts of Italy in one place and is easily accessible if you’re considering taking a European cruise with Europe Tours.

Climb Mount Vesuvius

The first time you heard about Mount Vesuvius was probably in a history book. Famous all over the world for its enormous eruption that buried the Roman town of Pompeii in a cloud of volcanic ash, it is unlike anything else you will find in Europe.

Today, the volcano is completely safe to climb and is suitable for all abilities. As for the views at the top, you can just imagine how breath-taking they are.
